City-wide sweep nets 14 arrests

BARSTOW Barstow Police made numerous arrests Wednesday after making compliance checks on parolees and probationers in the area.

With the assistance of the California Department of Corrections Parole Division out of Victorville and the San Bernardino County Probation Department, Barstow Division, police made rounds of parolees and probationers within the City of Barstow to ensure they were registered at the proper address and that they were abiding by the terms of their parole or probation.

Starting around 2 p.m., police arrested 14 for violating their parole or probation and outstanding warrants.

The following people were arrested:

Richard Romero, 18, was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm and participating in a criminal street gang. He also had an outstanding warrant for auto theft.

Police took Romero into custody at the end of the compliance check. Off-duty officer Nicholas Tollefson spotted Romero at a gas station on Armory Road and contacted police for an officer; however, Romero recognized Tollefson and fled on foot, according to a police department press release.

Tollefson pursued Romero and caught him after a short distance.

According to the release, Romero was carrying a .40 caliber Sig-Sauer pistol identical to those carried by Barstow Police Officers. He is also a known member of a local criminal street gang and has had other arrests due to firearms, the release said.

Tina Miller, 34, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and an outstanding warrant for child endangerment.

Holly Cropper, 26, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and an outstanding warrant for a parole violation.

Kevin Togstad, 42, was arrested on suspicion of an unnamed parole violation.

Dino Bucci Sr., 46, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

Julian Montez, 43, was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and also an outstanding warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Yolanda Dimas, 30, was arrested on suspicion being under the influence of drugs as well as an outstanding warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Christy Benavidez, 28, was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia.

James Sedillo, 24, was arrested on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Paul Bibler, 51, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

Robert Zamora, 42, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

Leo Saiz, 19, was arrested on suspicion of being an unlicensed driver.

Sean Lint, 28, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a peace officer.

Danny McKibben, 43, was arrested on suspicion of an unnamed probation violation.
